To these words, Mezza fell asleep. But Amanda couldn’t sleep. She knew what had happened to Salamander and, even more important, what would happen the next morning. Frankly speaking, she had always wondered what this character in her book looked like, even considered that he might be beautiful; never had she dreamt that he would be as handsome as he now was. She knew that she had fallen for him and by reading the book she knew that he had feelings for her as well.
That was what spurred her to make a decision. She had to make sure that Salamander was able to survive the act in the morning. Therefore, she rose and carefully crawled out of Mezza’s warm embrace, standing a safe distance away before she dared contacting her with her mind.
The golden dragon came to life at once, scrambling up to her feet. Amanda thanked herself for being cautious.
“What’s wrong?” Mezza asked. “Are there Meradan around?”
Amanda shook her head.
“It’s Ebañy”, she said. “He’s in danger.”
“Da’s with him”, Mezza said.
“No, magical danger”, Amanda quickly responded. “Please, Mezza, can you take me to him? It will take us a few hours, but please, I need to help him.”
Mezza considered this for a few moments.
“You love him, don’t you?” she said and flashed her pointed teeth in a grin. Amanda blushed.
“I don’t know”, she managed to send back. “I really, really care about him.”
Mezza laughed a silent, rumbling laugh as to not wake her siblings in the cave.
“Climb onto my back, we’ll find them.”
“It’s Aslan, My Lord”, he said. “He wants to see the girl.”
He turned his gaze to look at Cate, which made Caspian look at her as well. She stared back at the man in mere surprise.
A short while later she opened the door which led to the room where Aslan was being treated. The people in there all nodded at her, before they walked out, leaving her alone with the magnificent lion, hidden behind a veil of white linen.
But when she pulled it aside, it was not a lion lying in front of her. It was a man; muscular with tanned skin and golden-brown hair and beard, like a mane around his face. His eyes were closed and there were a few drops of sweat on his brow; he was in pain. Cate slowly sank down next to him, grabbed a towel from nearby and wiped them away.
Then he slowly opened his eyes, revealing his dark blue irises that looked straight into her. And she instantly knew that this was the Great Lion, but in a different shape, because no other creature could possibly have those eyes.
“Hello”, she said silently, unsure about if it was the right way to greet him.
“You’re the girl they saved from the water”, he said. “The one who sees things that no one else understands.”
“Well, I… I just… it’s just imagination”, she mumbled, blushing. It made him smile. He raised a trembling hand and touched her face; it was warm because of the fever.
“Imagination is good”, he whispered. “Otherwise I would not have sensed you. I… I would not have seen…”
He drew a rigid breath and closed his eyes momentarily, his body trembling.
“Who did this to you?” Cate asked sharply. “Who was it that attacked the Dawn Treader when they were leaving?”
She reached sick-bay not long after Doctor Crusher had returned there. Riker was also present.
“Anything?” Kate asked.
“No”, Doctor Crusher answered with a sigh. “They’re still in a coma. We have tried multiple ways of waking them but so far nothing has worked.”
“Where’s the fifth one?” Kate asked after looking around. “The one who seemed stronger than the others?”
“He was moved earlier this morning, I sent you a message about that, just as you asked”, the doctor answered.
“Yeah, forgot to check my messages this morning”, Kate muttered. “I overslept slightly.”
“Well, I would suggest that you do not head over to his room in any case”, Doctor Crusher said and walked over to the next bed. “We have had to place guards outside to ensure that he does not harm anyone.”
To that even Riker frowned.
“Do you mean he’s dangerous?” he asked.
“I would like to say that he’s in a shock, but so far none of us has been able to reach out and help him”, Doctor Crusher answered.
“Maybe I can do it”, Kate suggested. “Maybe he’ll understand that I wish to help him.”
“You are not heading there yourself”, Riker sharply pointed out. He then tapped his combadge.
“Riker to Worf!”
“Captain, our scanners have detected the preparations of another explosion”, Data said, having returned to the controls.
“Shields up, red alert and on screen”, Picard demanded.
“What explosion?” the one with the suit asked.
“Terrorists down on Feltan III”, Picard answered and sat down in his chair.
“Right, good, terrorists detonating explosions strong enough to make the ship in the sky go to red alert”, the one with the bowtie said, his voice sarcastic. “What about the people down there?”
“According to the scan of the explosion that brought you here not one single civilian was injured”, Data said.
“What?” the one with the suit said. “How is that… what?”
“Doctor, there’s no time for a rant about impossibilities right now”, Rosalie said, making everyone once again turn towards the window. It was now used as a viewscreen and showed one small island in the middle of a green sea. The island was glowing.
Then the ship started to shake once again and the newcomers screamed in surprise.
“Get in the TARDIS!” both of the Doctors yelled. Amy and Rory obeyed and ran back inside the blue box. The Doctor wearing a suit looked at them with a strange look on his face. The other one met his gaze.
“You’re alone?” he asked over the sound of the siren. A hard blast prevented the man with the suit from answering; he fell forward and landed on the floor after having bounced against one of the controls.
“Doctor!” Rosalie yelled. “Doctor, are you alright!”
Picard was sitting in his quarters when the door chimed.
“Come”, he said, putting the book down. The door opened and Rosalie stepped inside.
“I hope I do not disturb you, Captain”, she said.
“No, of course not”, he answered and rose. “Come inside.”
He walked over to the replicator.
“Do you wish to have something to drink?” he asked.
“How about the same that you drink?” she answered, nodding at his own cup and then smiling slightly at him. “Tea, Earl Grey, hot.”
The replicator immediately responded to her order, leaving Picard slightly off balance in surprise. He soon composed himself, however, and carried the cup over to the table, placing it in front of her.
“You’re still reading Shakespeare”, she noted, nodding at the book. “Which play?”
“How come you know these things about me?” he asked. She put her cup down.
“Do you remember how I questioned Doctor Crusher if I was dreaming?” she asked.
“Yes, of course.”
“Well, the reason for that was that I am not from here”, Rosalie explained. “I’m not from this planet, not from the Federation… not from the same universe, to tell the truth, but one parallel to yours.”
“What are you saying?” Picard asked, leaning forward.
“I come from Earth”, Rosalie answered. “I was born 1991 and I am twenty years old. I have just started to attend University and moved into my own apartment.”
“That’s impossible”, Picard said.
“If it was I would not be here”, Rosalie remarked. “Have you analyzed the fragments of the explosion?”
“You are an amazing singer”, Sofie said as he sank down in the seat next to her. “You know that?”
“I do my best”, Will answered and wiped some sweat off his face with his sleeve. “But I’ve never wanted to be a professional singer; I love teaching.”
“I know what you mean”, Sofie said with a smile, then cursed in her native tongue as her phone started to vibrate. “Shit, I forgot!”
She stood up and picked up her things.
“Sorry, Will, I’ve got to go. It’s from my school; I’m supposed to have a teleconference with my headmaster.”
“Well, then, I suppose I’ll see you tomorrow?” he said, feeling his heart drop slightly because of that she was leaving. She smiled and nodded, before she hurried out of the auditorium, the phone pressed to her ear.
“Sorry ‘bout that, Mr Schue”, Finn said. Will turned back towards his students, frowning.
“What are you talking about?”
“I mean, sorry that she left”, Finn said. Will’s eyes widened.
“You tried to set me up with her, didn’t you?” he asked.
“Look, you are probably the coolest teacher at this school”, Puck said and put his feet up on the chair in front of his own. “You were down for weeks after the last break-up, and then this young, hot…”
“Puck!” Will exclaimed.
“I’m just saying that she’s good looking, alright?” Puck said and held up his hands as a sign of surrender. “Well, she shows up and you look like a hungry wolf that just wants to jump her…”
“Puck!” Will yelled, even louder.
“But you haven’t done anything”, Rachel filled in. “Since you told us that we got you to realize that you couldn’t let Ms Pillsbury leave when we sang My Life Would Suck Without You, we figured that it might work to get you and Ms Johnson together as well by letting you sing Teenage Dream.”
Will groaned and leaned his face into his hands, wishing that this was all just a dream and that he would wake up without even having met Sofie.
