Synopsis: Kathleen “Lea” Crowley did not expect to find herself thrust into a new world on her first proper work day in six months. Or to wake up with a strange mark on her hand. Or to be handed a knife and asked to fight against monsters. But, at the moment, there’s not much else she can do.

Chapter 34 (summary)

“Give it one night”, Cullen said. Lea turned towards him with a frown.
“What?”
“One night”, he repeated. “Give us this night to prove that it can work. If it doesn’t – if you’re not comfortable… we’ll think of something else. Something that will make us all happy.”

“Cheesy.”
The strange elf narrowed his eyes at her.
“Are you trying to annoy me further?” he asked.

Chapter 11 (summary)

The elf by the broken window did not bat an eyelash.
“You think I find that threatening, harellan?” he asked. “Once, I did not know your tricks. I’ve had a lot of time to learn them.”
He pushed himself off of the wall and walked closer. Solas took a step back, closer to the couch.
“You’re that protective of a lowly shemlen?” the elven intruder asked. “How far you’ve fallen.”

Demons Run When a Good Man Goes to War (chapter 29)

Synopsis: Kathleen “Lea” Crowley did not expect to find herself thrust into a new world on her first proper work day in six months. Or to wake up with a strange mark on her hand. Or to be handed a knife and asked to fight against monsters. But, at the moment, there’s not much else she can do.

Chapter 29 (summary)

“Wonderful place, isn’t it?” he said after a while. That managed to make her smile, albeit briefly, and he must have realized she felt a bit better, because he slowly let go of her and held her at arm’s length, studying her with a frown. Silently asking if she was pretending or actually felt good enough to stand on her own. She gave him a nod and he let go.
“We have to get moving”, Hawke said. “If the Nightmare’s been weakened, now’s the time for us to make a run for it.”
“It’s not dead”, Cole mumbled. “It’s still here, waiting, lurking…”
“We’ll move as fast as we can”, Lea said, giving Cole’s arm a quick pat in order to make him focus. “We’re all tired and weakened as well; pushing too hard won’t get us anywhere. Except for into the Nightmare’s grip once more.”

TEASER

To these words, Mezza fell asleep. But Amanda couldn’t sleep. She knew what had happened to Salamander and, even more important, what would happen the next morning. Frankly speaking, she had always wondered what this character in her book looked like, even considered that he might be beautiful; never had she dreamt that he would be as handsome as he now was. She knew that she had fallen for him and by reading the book she knew that he had feelings for her as well.

That was what spurred her to make a decision. She had to make sure that Salamander was able to survive the act in the morning. Therefore, she rose and carefully crawled out of Mezza’s warm embrace, standing a safe distance away before she dared contacting her with her mind.

The golden dragon came to life at once, scrambling up to her feet. Amanda thanked herself for being cautious.

“What’s wrong?” Mezza asked. “Are there Meradan around?”

Amanda shook her head.

“It’s Ebañy”, she said. “He’s in danger.”

“Da’s with him”, Mezza said.

“No, magical danger”, Amanda quickly responded. “Please, Mezza, can you take me to him? It will take us a few hours, but please, I need to help him.”

Mezza considered this for a few moments.

“You love him, don’t you?” she said and flashed her pointed teeth in a grin. Amanda blushed.

“I don’t know”, she managed to send back. “I really, really care about him.”

Mezza laughed a silent, rumbling laugh as to not wake her siblings in the cave.

“Climb onto my back, we’ll find them.”

TEASER

“It’s Aslan, My Lord”, he said. “He wants to see the girl.”

He turned his gaze to look at Cate, which made Caspian look at her as well. She stared back at the man in mere surprise.

A short while later she opened the door which led to the room where Aslan was being treated. The people in there all nodded at her, before they walked out, leaving her alone with the magnificent lion, hidden behind a veil of white linen.

But when she pulled it aside, it was not a lion lying in front of her. It was a man; muscular with tanned skin and golden-brown hair and beard, like a mane around his face. His eyes were closed and there were a few drops of sweat on his brow; he was in pain. Cate slowly sank down next to him, grabbed a towel from nearby and wiped them away.

Then he slowly opened his eyes, revealing his dark blue irises that looked straight into her. And she instantly knew that this was the Great Lion, but in a different shape, because no other creature could possibly have those eyes.

“Hello”, she said silently, unsure about if it was the right way to greet him.

“You’re the girl they saved from the water”, he said. “The one who sees things that no one else understands.”

“Well, I… I just… it’s just imagination”, she mumbled, blushing. It made him smile. He raised a trembling hand and touched her face; it was warm because of the fever.

“Imagination is good”, he whispered. “Otherwise I would not have sensed you. I… I would not have seen…”

He drew a rigid breath and closed his eyes momentarily, his body trembling.

“Who did this to you?” Cate asked sharply. “Who was it that attacked the Dawn Treader when they were leaving?”
